Floating Glamping: The New Trend of Camping on the Water with Modular Pontoons

Amid travel trends that are increasingly personal, close to nature, and aesthetically driven, one remarkable innovation has caught the attention of holidaymakers: floating glamping, a luxury camping experience on the water.

Imagine sleeping in an elegant tent or cabin floating on the surface of a calm lake or sea, surrounded by the sounds of nature, the night sky, and fresh air—without giving up modern comforts.

Now, all of this is no longer just a dream. Thanks to modular pontoon technology, floating glamping is not only possible but can also be realized quickly, safely, and in an environmentally friendly way.

What Is Floating Glamping?

“Glamping” is short for glamorous camping — a camping experience with premium facilities such as comfortable beds, electricity, toilets, and even air conditioning and WiFi.

When glamping meets floating structures, the concept of floating glamping is born: semi-permanent accommodation on the water built on modular pontoons or floating cubes.

These structures not only offer a unique stay but also create an exclusive atmosphere, ideal for private retreats, honeymoons, or sustainable eco-tourism destinations.

Why Is Floating Glamping Trending?

1. 🌊 Close to Nature Without Sacrificing Comfort
Floating on the water offers an extraordinary sense of relaxation without leaving behind a comfortable bed or modern facilities.
2. 📸 Aesthetic and Instagrammable
Contemporary glamping designs combined with natural waterscapes create attractive photo spots for digitally savvy travelers.
3. 🌿 Environmentally Friendly
Unlike concrete construction or conventional resorts, floating structures do not damage underwater ecosystems because they can be moved without digging or backfilling.
4. 🚤 High Mobility
The glamping location can be adjusted — moved to another part of the lake, a hidden bay, or even floated on a small river for a new experience.

Modular Pontoons: The Foundation of Floating Glamping

Bajau Indo manufactures modular pontoons made from high-quality LLDPE — a solid plastic material that is impact-resistant, corrosion-proof, and UV-protected to ensure durability under the tropical sun.

Advantages of Bajau Indo pontoons:

• 🔧 Flexible, Modular Design
Floating cubes can be arranged and locked together to form bases of various sizes, matching the size of the cabin, deck, or lounge area.
• ☀️ Resistant to Extreme Weather
Designed to withstand tropical waters, they do not crack or fade easily.
• 🛠️ Minimal Maintenance
Unlike timber or metal, which rot and rust easily, our pontoons are virtually maintenance-free.
• 🧩 Easy to Assemble and Disassemble
Ideal for glamping entrepreneurs who want to start small and grow step by step.

The Business Potential of Floating Glamping in Indonesia

With more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia has extraordinary potential for water-based tourism. Many natural lakes, man-made dams, bays, and even calm rivers have yet to be used for tourism.

Some potential locations for floating glamping:

• Lake Toba (North Sumatra)
• Kiluan Bay (Lampung)
• Situ Patenggang (West Java)
• Lake Batur (Bali)
• Pulau Seribu (Jakarta)
• Lake Limboto (Gorontalo)
• Rammang-Rammang (South Sulawesi)

Floating glamping can become a new attraction for these areas. Tourism villages, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), or landowners can even use it to open exclusive accommodation businesses on the water with a lighter investment than conventional resorts.
