Floating Boat Docks for Small Boats, Speedboats & Ferries

A floating boat dock rises and falls with the tide, so boats can always berth safely. Bajau Indo offers two systems: aluminium-frame docks on blockpods for marinas and larger vessels, and modular docks built from Nusa Dock floating cubes for small boats.

Floating vs fixed docks

Why choose a floating boat dock?

On a fixed dock (concrete or piled), the height between deck and boat changes with every tide. At low tide passengers climb steep ladders; at high tide the deck can flood. A floating boat dock rises and falls with the water, so the deck stays at roughly the same height as the boat's hull all day.

Installation is also faster because no concrete foundations are needed in the water, the seabed is disturbed less, and the dock can be extended, reshaped, or relocated as the harbour's needs change. See also why floating docks make harbours more flexible.

Aluminium-frame boat dock (marina)

An aluminium frame with a WPC (wood-plastic composite) deck resting on 120 × 100 cm blockpods. Comes with a gangway to shore, pile guides, and cleats for mooring lines. For marinas, yacht clubs, speedboats, ferries, and seaplanes.

Boat dock built from Nusa Dock floating cubes

150 × 100 cm floating cube modules — 6× larger than a standard floating cube, polyurethane-insulated — form the deck directly. Few joints, quick to assemble, and easy to extend — ideal for fishing boats, longboats, jet skis, kayaks, and tour boats on lakes, rivers, and sheltered coasts.

Components

What makes up a floating boat dock

Floats

120 × 100 cm blockpods for the aluminium system, or Nusa Dock floating cube modules. Both are LLDPE with a polyurethane core.

Gangway

A bridge from shore to the dock whose outer end moves, so its slope adapts to the tide.

Pile guides

Guides that hold the piles: the dock moves freely up and down but cannot drift with currents or wind.

Cleats

Mooring points along the deck edge, sized to the dock length and the number of berthing boats.

FAQ

Floating boat dock FAQ

How is a floating boat dock different from a concrete dock?
A concrete or piled dock is fixed, so the height between deck and boat changes with the tide. A floating boat dock rises and falls with the water, needs no concrete foundations in the water, and can be extended or relocated.
What size of boat dock do I need?
A deck width of 2.5–3 m is common for marina piers, while the length follows the number and length of boats berthing at once. Ferries and seaplanes usually need a wider deck, such as the Ferry & Seaplane Dock 26 × 6 m.
Is a floating dock strong enough for ferries and seaplanes?
For ferries and seaplanes we use the aluminium-frame system on blockpods, as in the boat and seaplane dock we built in the Selayar Islands. Capacity is calculated per project from vessel weight, passengers, and water conditions.
How does a floating dock handle the tide?
The dock floats freely up and down and is held in position by pile guides on the piles. The gangway to shore changes its slope as the water moves. Gangway length is chosen from the tidal range at the site — see our article on tides and docks.
Can a floating boat dock be installed in open sea?
Floating docks work best in sheltered or semi-sheltered water such as bays, harbours, estuaries, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. For sites with large waves, we first assess whether a breakwater and a heavier mooring system are needed.
How much does a floating boat dock cost?
The price depends on the system (aluminium or Nusa Dock), deck area, number of pile guides, gangway length, and delivery location. Send us your site details and vessel type on WhatsApp for a quote.
